A detailed assessment of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, visible pancreas, spleen, kidneys and abdominal aorta. It may help investigate upper abdominal pain, bloating, gallbladder concerns, abnormal liver blood tests or a previously identified finding.
Your sonographer discusses your symptoms before scanning the abdomen with gel and a handheld probe. Findings are explained and a written report is included, usually the same day.
Fast for six hours before your appointment; water is encouraged. Contact us if fasting is difficult or unsafe for you. Bowel gas can limit views, and ultrasound does not fully assess the stomach or bowel or identify every cause of abdominal symptoms.

A focused ultrasound examination measuring the abdominal aorta, the main artery supplying the abdomen and lower body, to assess for enlargement or an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
The probe is moved over your abdomen to obtain images and measurements. Your findings are explained and documented in a written report, with recommendations where appropriate.
This is a dedicated aortic scan rather than a full abdominal examination; it does not provide a complete assessment of the other abdominal organs. Follow the preparation instructions supplied with your appointment.

A detailed assessment of the uterus, womb lining, ovaries and surrounding pelvic structures, tailored to your symptoms and relevant history. It can investigate pelvic pain, heavy or irregular bleeding, bloating, fibroids, ovarian cysts, polycystic ovarian appearance and post-menopausal concerns.
Transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound are included where appropriate; an internal scan is only performed with your consent. We look for recognised features associated with adenomyosis and endometriosis, but a normal ultrasound does not exclude endometriosis.
Your appointment includes time to discuss the findings, a detailed report, a plain-English summary and recommendations for any further assessment. Follow your appointment instructions for bladder preparation.
Fertility Scans
Fertility, AFC & Cycle Tracking

Full scan description
A single fertility ultrasound assessing the uterus, endometrium and ovaries for baseline assessment, antral follicle count (AFC), natural-cycle monitoring or fertility-treatment monitoring, according to your requirements.
The examination is usually transvaginal, with your consent. Depending on the reason and timing, we count visible antral follicles or measure developing follicles and the womb lining. Please provide any fertility-clinic protocol and requested measurements when booking.
Findings are explained and a written report is included. An AFC does not measure egg quality or predict conception, and routine ultrasound does not confirm whether the fallopian tubes are open. Medication and treatment decisions remain with your fertility clinic.

Kidneys and Urinary Scan

Full scan description
A detailed assessment of both kidneys and the bladder for urinary symptoms, kidney or flank pain, recurrent infections, suspected stones or follow-up of a previous finding.
The kidneys are assessed for size, appearance, cysts, visible stones and collecting-system dilatation. The bladder is examined while full, followed by a post-void measurement to assess emptying. For men, prostate assessment through the abdomen is included where appropriate.
Findings are explained and a written report is included. Arrive with a comfortably full bladder and follow your booking instructions. Ultrasound cannot detect every stone or cause of urinary symptoms, and the ureters are not always fully visible.

Testicular Ultrasound

Full scan description
A discreet assessment of both testicles, epididymides and surrounding scrotal structures for a lump, swelling, persistent discomfort or other change. Doppler ultrasound assesses blood flow where appropriate.
Your sonographer discusses your concern, examines the area with an external probe and explains the findings. A detailed written report is included. No special preparation is required, and privacy and dignity are maintained throughout.
A testicular lump or persistent change should also be assessed by your GP. Sudden severe testicular pain requires immediate assessment in A&E and should not wait for a private scan. Ultrasound cannot identify every cause of pain or provide a definitive tissue diagnosis.

Fast for six hours and arrive with a comfortably full bladder, following your appointment instructions. Prostate ultrasound assesses visible size and structure; it cannot diagnose or exclude prostate cancer. Ultrasound does not identify every cause of abdominal or urinary symptoms.

A focused ultrasound assessment of one anatomical area for pain, swelling, suspected tendon or muscle injury, tendinopathy, bursitis or other soft-tissue concerns. Accessible muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursae and joints are assessed according to the area selected.
You may be asked to move the joint or change position so the tissues can be examined dynamically. Findings are explained and a written report is included. Wear clothing that allows access to the area and bring relevant previous imaging or treatment information.
Available in Portsmouth only. Some bone, cartilage, spinal and deeper joint problems require other imaging. This examination does not assess the deep veins or exclude a blood clot. Contact us if you are unsure which area to book.

A focused assessment of a suspected groin or abdominal-wall hernia, for a lump, bulge, aching or dragging sensation that may change when standing, coughing or straining.
Your sonographer discusses the area of concern and scans the tissues with an external probe. You may be asked to cough, strain, stand or change position to assess movement and changes with pressure.
Findings are explained and a detailed written report is included, with recommendations where appropriate. Available in Portsmouth only. This is a targeted hernia examination rather than a complete abdominal or pelvic scan.
Lumps and Bumps Ultrasound

A focused assessment of a superficial soft-tissue lump or localised swelling, such as a suspected cyst or lipoma beneath the skin.
The examination documents the lump’s size, location, appearance and relationship to surrounding tissues. Doppler ultrasound may be used to assess blood flow where appropriate. Please show your sonographer the exact area of concern.
Findings are explained and a detailed written report is included. Available in Portsmouth only. Ultrasound may help characterise a lump, but further imaging, clinical assessment or investigation may be needed. A dedicated 45-minute transthoracic echocardiogram assessing heart-chamber size and structure, pumping function, heart valves and blood flow. The examination is performed by a specialist echocardiographer using a probe on your chest.
A detailed written report is included. No GP referral is required, but you must arrange to discuss your results and recommended next steps with your GP. Routine GP consultations are separate from the scan fee.
