What Does an Echocardiogram Assess?
An echocardiogram uses ultrasound to create moving images of your heart. This transthoracic scan is performed by moving an ultrasound probe over your chest while you lie on an examination couch.
Heart Chambers
The scan assesses the size and structure of your heart chambers.
Pumping Function
Ultrasound shows how the heart muscle contracts and pumps blood.
Heart Valves
The valves are assessed to see how they open and close.
Blood Flow
Doppler ultrasound helps assess blood flow through the heart and its valves.

What Happens During Your Echocardiogram?
Before the scan, Keli will discuss the reason for your examination and relevant medical history.
You will lie on an examination couch while gel and an ultrasound probe are used on your chest to obtain images of your heart. Please allow 45 minutes for your appointment.
A detailed written report is included. You must arrange an appointment with your GP to discuss the results and any recommended next steps. Routine GP follow-up is arranged separately and is not included in the £349 scan fee.
Is this the right test for me? An echo may be appropriate when a clinician has recommended assessment of heart structure or function, or for review of an existing heart condition. If you are unsure, speak with your GP or contact our team before booking.
An echocardiogram does not rule out every heart condition or replace a medical consultation. It is different from an ECG, which records the heart’s electrical activity; a standalone diagnostic ECG is not included.
